The Fitzrovia Photography Prize ‘Within A Mile’

Fitzrovia has a long history of being a bohemian area, attracting artists & artisans such as Walter Sickert, Dylan Thomas & Nina Hamnett. Unlike many formerly creative areas of London whose spark was fleeting – today in Fitzrovia - this tradition persists.

The area boasts many galleries & a vibrant community, housing nationalities from all over the globe. This exhibition is a celebration of this cultural wealth.

The rules of the competition were simple: Each entrant could submit up to three images taken within a one mile radius of the premises of Diemar/Noble Photography, London, [Map ref: H8.] The location of each photograph is illustrated by its corresponding grid reference.

Just as varied as the images themselves, the entries came pouring in from photographers based locally, elsewhere within the UK & far beyond including Europe, Canada & the USA.

This fitting diversity of photographers reflects the many facets of city life, whereby everyday moments become breathtakingly perceptible & extraordinary.

Romance, apathy, absurdity, political unrest, comedy, national celebration & quiet moments of observation all compliment each other to present a genuine portrait of London life.

We hope you will follow in these photographers’ footsteps after your visit here. Whether you are local, or from further afield, we aspire to present a new perspective on London. We hope this work will be a compelling invitation to explore the area with new eyes.
