About The Artist

Marcus Doyle’s landscape photographs are concerned with environments that have been altered and exploited by man. His images display the scars of human interaction without people being present in the frame. He spent three years in the USA photographing across the continent. The resulting work was vast, including a series of images of the abandoned holiday resort Salton Sea.

Doyle’s landscapes explore the places that are often overlooked. His night photography reveals an atmospheric world, where the ordinary becomes extraordinary and hyper real. In one image titled Desert Portal the long exposure turns a billboard in a glowing light, which is inviting yet strange, although ultimately familiar.

His Red Quarry and White Quarry series are simply titled by numbers, suggesting anonymity of place. The intricate patterns, tyre tracks, footprints and indentations however, belie a more complex vista

Doyle’s images are often the result of a long, patient process waiting for the correct light in which to capture a scene. This can takes hours or even days to achieve just one photograph. His use of colour – coupled with a keen eye for detail – gives Doyle’s work a moving and timeless quality from the most unlikely places.
